CHECK OUT OUR ITINERARIES
Adventure Cycling's tour planners, photo snappers, and wordsmiths
have been working overtime the past few weeks in order to provide
you with a fantastic new feature on our website: day-by-day (or, in
the case of long trips, week-by-week) itineraries for all 37 of our
unique supported and self-contained tours, as well as for our seven
education courses. Go the link below and find the tour of your
choice. Once you get there, you'll see four tabs: Description,
Details, Itinerary, and Testimonials. Point and click around a
little bit; we think you'll be impressed…and hard pressed to stop
the reading and dreaming.

One of approximately a dozen new tours we're offering this year is
the ten-day Selkirk Splendor, which takes in some of the most scenic
parts of northern Idaho, southern British Columbia, and
northeastern Washington. Among the towns the self-contained tour will
visit is Bonners Ferry, the following story about which popped up on
our radar late last week:

HELP IS ON THE WAY
Question: What is sixty feet wide and sixty miles long? Answer:
Ohio's Little Miami Scenic Trail, which makes up a section of the
Underground Railroad Bicycle Route and is officially part of the
state parks system of Ohio. The trail is also degrading in places and
in need of some serious help. A man named Simeon Copple is doing
something about it, and you can read just what that is at this link:

FOR HYPERMILING FRUGALISTAS
If you enjoy wordplay, you'll love these. Or maybe hate them. One
way or the other, you'll get a chuckle (or groan) out of them.

BIKE YOUR DRIVE
Our friends at REI have launched an online resource aimed at
inspiring more people to hop on their bicycles, "by exposing myths
and breaking down common barriers associated with using a bicycle
as an alternate means of transportation." Among the myths exposed
and broken down: that one cannot carry much stuff on a bicycle, and
that only expensive bikes are worth riding. Check it out here:

LAB WORK
California Giant Berry Farms, located in Watsonville, California, was
one of several companies recently honored by the League of American
Bicyclists with a "Bicycle Friendly Business" award. According to
the following story, "California Giant's commitment to sponsoring a
cycling team ultimately spilled over to employees that began climbing
on their bikes and riding to work. Several employees ride on a daily
basis as a way to offset rising fuel prices and avoid traffic. Others
on staff can be seen riding as part of a fitness regime during their
lunch hour. For those that want to stay indoors, the company has
stationary bikes and bike trainers as part of the office gym
installed in the spring. Most recently, showers and lockers were
installed in the office for the staff." Read more at FreshPlaza,
which bills itself as "an independent news source for companies
operating in the global fruit and vegetable sector around the world."

PTS SUFFERERS UNITE
A fellow named Scott weighed in earlier this month at the Adventure
Cycling forums, where he coined a phrase for the state of mind he
found himself in after riding cross-country last summer: Post Tour
Syndrome, or PTS. As Scott infers, there could be worse maladies
to have. Check it out here:

A MEDLEY OF GIFTS
When you give a fellow cycling enthusiast (or someone you'd like to
see get enthused about cycling) a membership in Adventure Cycling
Association, you're providing them with a lot more than just one
lone present. You're giving them inspiration, great reading,
world-class resources (both printed and online), potential new
friends and riding partners; and possibly even what they need to get
on the road to fitness and adventure. So, we're happy to be
extending our Holiday Gift Offer again this year. In our
tireless--and totally enjoyable--efforts to inspire more people to
travel by bicycle, we would like to give you the opportunity to
present gift memberships for less than half the regular rate. Simply
join or renew your own membership, and you can give as many gift
memberships as you want for just $15 each. By doing so, you'll be
presenting friends and family with at least a year's worth of
cycling inspiration--and, with any luck, a lifetime's worth. Begin
the process by clicking here:
